Cleaning

• Green Cleaning Guidelines for Schools:  Effective September 1, 2006, The New York State Education Law and State Finance Law require school districts to reduce exposure of children and school staff to potentially harmful chemicals and substances used in the cleaning and maintenance of schools by using guidelines to purchase environmentally friendly cleaning products.  The State Office of General Services, in consultation with other State agencies, has developed final guidelines as well as a list of approved green cleaning products.

• Court Rules for Student Whose Disability Was Disclosed to Student Body:  The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit ruled today that a student with disabilities can sue his school district under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act for "bad faith and gross misjudgment" because the district failed to protect him from discrimination and harassment by other students after a teacher disclosed his medical condition to the student body.
